Materials Chemistry Option

Students completing the following program of study earn a Specialized Honours degree in Chemistry, fully accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC), but the degree and transcript will carry no mention of this option. Students can instead request a letter from the Chair attesting to their successful completion of this special course sequence.

  • The requirements for the Specialized Honours BSc program in Chemistry for the applicable year, except that:
    • the Science Breadth requirement is instead: LE/EECS (formerly LE/CSE) 1020 3.0 or 1520 3.0 or 1530 3.0 or 1540 3.0; MATH 1013 3.0 and MATH 1014 3.0 (see Note 1); PHYS 1010 6.0 or 1410 6.0 or 1420 6.0; BIOL 1010 6.00 (now BIOL 1000 3.0 and BIOL 1001 3.0) or the combination of EATS 1010 3.00 and EATS 1011 3.00; MATH 2015 or 2270
    • the upper-year CHEM requirements of the degree must include CHEM 3011, 3031, 3090 and 4090

Notes:

  1. Students transferring from another program with credit in other MATH courses may be wholly or partially exempted. For instance, transferring students with credit in MATH 1505 6.0 may be exempted from MATH 1013 3.0 or from both MATH 1013 3.0 and MATH 1014 3.0, depending on the grade earned. Chemistry majors are not permitted to take MATH 1505 6.0, and should in general not take MATH courses that are cross-listed with MATH 1013 3.0 or MATH 1014 3.0 except by permission from the Undergraduate Program Director.
